    Provide desk coverage on the unit. You are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your duties. Such administrative authority must be in accordance with current Federal and State regulations and laws.


    • Place calls to physicians and receives, retains and records orders.
    • Initiates procedures for admissions, hospital returns and transfers.
    • Notify responsible party as directed by Charge Nurse or Unit Manager.
    • Answer phone, take and rely messages.
    • Keep desk neat and orderly and maintain neat and legible labels on all charts.
    • Complete all unit work orders as requested.
    • Add nurse notes/progress notes to charts as needed.
    • Record all vitals (heights, weights, I & O, blood pressure) as directed by the Charge Nurse.
    • Accompanies physician on rounds and takes verbal orders; transcribes orders to physician order sheet and medication cardex.
    • Reviews physician orders to ensure accuracy of medication and treatment records.
    • Orders medications and supplies for residents.
    • Communicate effectively with others, i.e. residents, families, visitors, and co-workers.
    • Carry out facility policies and procedures.
    • Identify learning needs of residents/families and family caregivers and help to develop and implement a teaching plan.
    • Document information in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident’s response to the care.
    • Understand and follow all HIPAA Guidelines.
    • Understand and follow infection control practices.


    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pa based on campus location.
    • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
    • Working knowledge of pharmacology.
    • Competent leadership skills.
    • Adequate problem-solving skills.
    • Positive interpersonal skills in working with residents, families and interdisciplinary team members.
    • Awareness of environmental safety.
    • Adequate organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Subject to call-back during emergency conditions, i.e. severe weather, evacuation, disaster, etc.
